Information about David

I am Physics graduate and qualified teacher. After four years in an outstanding state school, I have tutored privately since 2014, and have spent much time and effort developing my ability to engage students and help them love and understand science. I myself love to learn and am fascinated about all sorts of topics, but I have also learned to listen to understand how my student thinks. As well as subject specific experience, I have put together a powerful set of learning and revision strategies, and I introduce them to my students right from the start.

As well as my professional experience in the area of additional needs, I have some personal experience as well. So I’m very happy to work with students with additional needs or non-neurotypical thinking styles.

I am easy going and friendly, and I understand that not everyone approaches Science from the same point of view. I would like to help you like it as much as I do!

Hobbies and Interests:
-I am very interested in rocketry and spacecraft design, and this is reflected in a few of my hobbies for example I have built model rockets, and I am a big fan of the `Kerbal Space Program` game.
-Some of my other interests are rock climbing, playing drums, squash, cycling and camping. Other hobbies include playing strategy games (computer and tabletop) and model making.
-I also subscribe to several fascinating Science Youtube channels including `Veritasium`, `Smarter Every Day` and `SciShow`.

Availability: Usually weekdays, any time of day both in term time and school holidays. See my availability chart for current free slots. If needed, I am happy to seek permission from a student’s school to meet them there (eg in the library) during free periods/after school etc.

I am quite willing to travel to tutor - if it is a long journey I can still do it but may have to add a small charge for travel time.

(Please note that whilst some of Kent is technically within 15miles of me `as the crow flies`, I do not currently travel south of the Thames river because the actual drive distance over the crossing is much greater and often involves long traffic delays.)

Willing to travel: 15 miles

Experience: Four years teaching experience in an outstanding secondary school teaching Science to lower school and GCSE groups and Physics at GCSE and A-level. I was also the lead A-level Physics teacher in my School for the last three of those years.
I have been tutoring as my main `day job` since August 2014, alongside some other roles in charity work and special educational needs.

David has given my daughter so much confidence already, only few sessions in and long may this continue. David is a good tutor and keeps me updated on her progress. I am very happy and thankful of his sessions, we have noticed improvement in her school work already.
