Information about Rachael
*currently on maternity leave and therefore I am unfortunately not able to take on any tutoring. Many thanks*
I am a newly qualified Doctor. I have three years of formal tutoring experience, and spent four years mentoring students at university, and those applying.
I believe that the key role of a tutor is not to lecture students, but to facilitate learning by engaging with them on a platform that they learn best in. With some students, this can involve spending time on study skills, and in others it may involve starting from scratch and filling in the gaps that were left in class. Whatever my students academic needs are, I pride myself on being able to work towards them as a team, in a friendly and supportive manner. I hope to leave my students with both the academic knowledge and understanding they need to succeed, and the confidence to help them use it.
I can tutor psychology up to GCSE level, and biology and chemistry at A-Level. I can also provide support with medical school applications - something I have been doing informally for the past 3 years.
I am hoping to help and support those students from a range of situations, those who might need some revision help and those who might be looking for tutoring for their entire module. I will structure my teaching around each individual student, using different media wherever relevant, supporting students towards their goals, and building their confidence.
Availability: Weekday Evenings and Weekends usually, however it is best to contact me and discuss this.
I also offer discounted rates and increased flexibility if students are able to travel to my home for lessons.
Willing to travel: 3 miles
Experience: Chemistry & Biology Tutoring
Over the last 5 years i have provided a wealth of tuition at various levels, ranging from GCSE to A2, and have been lucky enough to work with some students for their entire A level course. I enjoyed this role as it allowed me to play a role in the success of students who might otherwise be otherwise struggling, but also because I really appreciated all of the support and help I have received over the years - and I love to be able to pass that on.
Chemistry Classroom Assistant
As part of my work experience for my UCAS application I acted as a classroom assistant, which also involved working with students with special educational needs.
Student Mentor
I have been a student mentor for the last 3 years at university, which has involved mentoring one student per year. This often involves emotional and practical support in their first year away from home, and exam advice and help.
Practical skills tutoring
For three years I have provided group practice and revision sessions, in which I have taught and informally examined first, second and third year medical students practical skills, in line with their Objective Structured Clinical Examinations.
