Information about Tom

I am an experienced violin and mandolin teacher based in London. In addition to my teaching I also have a busy career performing all sorts of styles, including classical, jazz and folk. This has taken me to far flung places such as China and the Caribbean as well as to venues such as the Royal Festival Hall, on television, BBC radio, numerous summer festivals etc.
I really enjoy the eclectic mix of styles I perform, places and situations I perform in and the amazing musicians I have the privilege of working with and I try to nurture this enthusiasm in every student I teach.
I am happy to take a student through grade exams but equally content to just focus on enjoying making music and having fun.

Availability: Some weekdays during the day, most weekday evenings and occasionally at the weekend. I am happy to arrange regular lesson times but can also be flexible with scheduling.

Willing to travel: 2 miles

Experience: For the last seven years I have had a number of private pupils ranging from young children up to adult learners. I also teach in schools where I deliver one-to-one lessons, small-group classes and whole-class tuition as well as directing some school ensembles. In addition to this I work for the English Folk Dance and Song Society, based in Camden, teaching on holiday courses for teenagers and as an out-sourced EFDSS tutor leading workshops in Saturday schools. All of this experience has given me a strong working knowledge of a wide range of ages, abilities and learning styles.
I studied at Trinity College of Music and have both bachelor`s and master`s degrees in violin performance. I am also currently studying part-time for a master`s degree in Ethnomusicology at the School of Oriental and African Studies, University of London.
