Information about Pat
Employed by [contact detail removed] to train Maths tutors/teachers UK wide in adopting a cutting edge coaching approach to problem solving. Bachelors degree Loughborough University, Masters degree from Warwick University. I am enthusiastic and passionate about teaching and at the same time am approachable and friendly in my relationship with my pupils.
As a professional performance coach (who has worked in education and business) I have a unique insight into what facilitates success. My approach recognises the need to align conceptual understanding with an ability to apply it in different situations. There is often a disconnect here which explains why pupils struggle in exam situations. Students are often taught Maths in a rote fashion which means there is a lack of `deep learning`. It is like learning a language from books but never using the language in real situations. I brought my unique coaching approach to Warwick University`s Maths Resilience Project and to my delight it is being used nationwide.
Equally importantly I ensure the sessions are enjoyable by injecting variety, and an element of humour and fun. Maths Education is, sadly, often associated with boredom but it needn`t be this way. A lot of beauty and magic in the world is underpinned by Mathematics!

Would highly recommend . Pat went out of his way to help support my son with his maths GCSE . Very engaging tutor
Pat has been fantastic for my son studying for his GCSE Maths. Pat quickly formed a great rapport with Jack (especially talking about Liverpool football!) However the key thing is that Pat is also a great teacher, very patient, knowledgeable, and supportive. A great find for us. Jack wants to continue with Pat even though hes probably not going into A-level Maths - thats how good Pat is!
Pat has been helping my Year 10 daughter catch up with maths after a term missed through illness. We have had sessions across the summer holidays and Pat has been really easy to work with in terms of logistics but more importantly she has gained in confidence and and is feeling so much more positive about year 11 and gaps are closing. She has found lessons engaging and easy to understand.
Pat is a fantastic tutor. He`s great at engaging with the kids and making it fun. My son loves his lessons and looks forward to every one. 10/10 would recommend using Pat. We look forward to having him tutor our other children too!
Pat has been a fantastic tutor for our son. He gave him some extra confidence and knowledge leading up final A level exams. Hoping to achieve an A in maths for Economics at Bath.
Pat is really personable and made it enjoyable for our daughter who was struggling with A levels and starting to lose confidence.
Pat is an excellent tutor. He has improved my sons understanding and knowledge in maths in such a short time. My son is enjoying his sessions and his confidence is growing with each session. I have no problem getting him to study inbetween sessions because he`s invested in his own progression. I would highly recommend Pat.
My son, A, was struggling with school maths when Pat first started to tutor him, and he had very little confidence in his own abilities. Pat was patient and encouraging, giving A the opportunity to ask questions and explore new concepts in a fun, relaxed way. I often heard laughter coming from the room where they were working and soon A looked forward to his head frying sessions when he enjoyed grappling with concepts and trying questions. 2 years on: A got a 9 at GCSE and has started to study at A level, and much more importantly is enjoying the challenge of maths and is more self-confident.
Pat is very personable and very patient with my son who is not the easiest person in the world with whom to engage! After a poor mock gcse result which didnt reflect his maths ability I asked Pat to tutor him. Since the lessons started my son has got 9s in most/all of his exams.
Engaging, patient and kind, Pat is an excellent tutor who has worked out how to encourage my daughter who now enjoys maths with a positive attitude.
Pat has been an excellent Maths Tutor for my son, year 9. He is patient, positive and has built a great rapport with our family. He explains maths problems in a way that makes sense to my son, finally! Highly recommended. :-)
Pat has only been tutoring my daughter for a month and she has already made significant progress in maths and is now working at a level that is above her year group. Most importantly, Pat makes the lesson fun and she really looks forward to it every week.
Pat is a fantastic tutor. He really understands my son, has taken time to work with him and has accommodated his learning needs brilliantly. My son really enjoys these sessions and is already really feeling the benefits. Very positive.
We are extremely happy with Pat, his approach is perfect and progress is good working towards the exam period.
