Information about Lisa
Qualifying in 2006 with QTS in Secondary English (University of Leeds) I have taught English across KS3-5 for 12 years, and currently teach GCSE and Functional Skills English to post-16 learners in Leeds.
Following the arrival of my children (both still of pre-school age) I left full time work, and have since worked in both FE and HE, expanding my skill base considerably.
In addition to traditional classroom based practice, I have also worked extensively with both adults and young people in community settings, and have developed a range of enjoyable, creative approaches to developing literacy skills with my learners.
I have a very positive and encouraging approach with my learners, and I understand from experience that often progress is most forthcoming with the development of self confidence alongside subject-specific skills.

Experience: Prior to my current FE teaching role, I worked for eight years in a high-performing Leeds academy, both as an English teacher and Literacy Progress Leader, with responsibility for whole-school literacy. As such, I have expertise in addressing a range of barriers to literacy development.
My current teaching role requires me to engage with learners who have struggled to make progress in traditional settings. I enjoy adapting my approach to make learning accessible to diverse learners, and find success in these cases extremely gratifying.
At the other end of the spectrum, my previous role in HE enabled me to work with undergraduate level students, assisting with both assignment content and issues concerning academic literacy.
