Information about Lawrence
I am a maths, philosophy and religious studies tutor with six years of teaching experience. Besides private tutoring, I have taught undergraduate seminars at UCL and Birkbeck, and I am a tutor at the UCL Summer School in Ancient Philosophy. I have three master’s degrees, including an undergraduate degree in physics and two postgraduate degrees in philosophy from UCL and the LSE. I am currently a PhD candidate at UCL, specialising in Ancient Greek philosophy.

Experience: I have six years of teaching experience. I teach students studying for KS3, GCSE and A Level maths, philosophy and religious studies. My primary goals as a tutor are to build student confidence and transform weaknesses into strengths to enable students to be in the best possible positions for their exams. I have particular experience with the Edexcel GCSE Maths syllabus, with many of my students achieving remarkable success, including grade 8s and 9s. I have worked with students with dyslexia, autism and other neurodivergent conditions. I also offer tuition for those who aren’t studying for any particular qualification but who are just looking to learn out of curiosity or for fun. This includes teaching adult learners who may want to get back into a subject they haven’t studied or read about in years.
I approach the lessons with my students in three main ways.
1. Overcoming Difficulties: I focus on areas and topics that students struggle by explaining the material and asking questions to check their understanding and mastery.
2. Ongoing Support: I offer weekly support or ‘back-up’ sessions throughout the academic year as students learn new topics in classes, reinforcing their understanding of the material, improving confidence and ensuring steady progress.
3. Exam Preparation: I help students spend as much time as possible on practising exam questions and past papers to ensure that they are as well-prepared as possible for their exams to achieve the best possible results. I work together with them through past exam papers to strengthen their exam technique and skills, and boost their confidence.

Lawrence is very professional - he asked the student what she needed help with and he made sure the structure was in place to go through those certain topics in as much detail as possible. He gave her resources to embed her learning and he would ask prior to every lesson what she needed to go through. Lawrence was very accomodating with lesson times, which made it easier to book last minute lessons when required. He built the student`s confidence in her own ability and was extremely supportive. I would highly recommend Lawrence.

Lawrence provides a different method of understanding and is thorough with his work, in that he will always ensure i am 100% confident in what i am doing before we move on. he is always very encouraging. and he has really helped me to understand mathematics a lot more and better! (:

Lawrence is a good tutor. My son is a year 13 A level Physics students and because of the Coronavirus and the cancellation of all A level exams we only used Lawrence for approximately 6 weeks. However, in that time he very quickly identified my son`s learning gaps and also engaged well with my son. I am very happy to recommend Lawrence.
