Information about Steve
I have been a teacher in local secondary schools for over 25 years. In the last few years I have also helped various students with private tuition. I can do some distance working until we are able to meet face to face.
I am able to tutor all Science subjects, Year 9 up to GCSE/iGCSE.
For over 20 years I have worked as an examiner for several exam boards, giving me a good insight into the way students need to structure answers to gain the best marks.
With my increasing Exam work I have decided to leave teaching and focus on the work with the exam boards and one to one tuition. This means I can dedicate more time to producing good quality individually structured lessons.
My tutoring is based around three principles: understanding, recall and past paper work. The focus on the lessons will depend on the needs of the student and building their confidence.

Steve has been a fantastic help for our son in taking his combined Science GCSE (Year 11) exams in Summer 2023. Having previously worked on the examination board, Steve`s knowledge in how to interpret the questions was absolutely key. Steve consistently guided our son in how to read the question properly, and understand what the examiner is expecting in an answer. Before this, our son would read the question too quickly, misunderstand the question and then miss out on lots of valuable points. Our son said that the school did not explain this information at all - so without Steve`s help, our son would have kept making the same mistakes again and again, not knowing how to improve. To further confirm the progress made.... at the end of Year 10, our son was predicting a result of a level 2,2. A good science grade was needed for the next step (college), and hence approaching Steve for help. On results day our son achieved a result of a level 7,6! 👍; In addition, Steve was reliable, consistent, punctual, and polite. We had Steve visit, every week, from January, up until the last exam in June. He always arrived on time, organised and ready to tackle the particular subject/topic area of focus for that particular week (be it, an agreed topic that our son needed help on, or working on the subjects ready for the upcoming exam timetable). Steve`s help was invaluable and hugely appreciated. Thank you Steve

Steve has helped my son understand how the exam questions are structured and hence how to answer them. He has given guidance on topics to revise and they focus on topics my son is struggling with, which has increased his confidence levels. Steve has been flexible in terms of times and also provided additional revision materials that have been useful.

Our daughter has only had support from Steve for a few weeks but she is already benefiting from the extra teaching. Steve is organised, reliable, good at communicating and my daughter is feeling more confident with her sciences. Steve is flexible in the subjects/topics and shares resources with her. It is an added advantage that he can support her in all 3 sciences and has a very good understanding of GCSE curriculum and the exam process.
