Information about Stephen
Hi, Im Stephen. I`m qualified to PhD level in Physics and have worked in research and development in both University and Industry for 20 years. Through this time Ive had the pleasure of mentoring and tutoring family member, friends, students and trainees aged from 9 years old through to adult. I have a passion for both learning and teaching and am experienced with many effective learning and memory techniques that complements standard teaching and can accelerate understanding and greatly improve learning and recall.
Whilst tutoring at University I was often told by my students that I had an ability to explain difficult concepts in a simple way and to make the learning process interesting and fun, which I believe can improve the learning experience and I try to bring this to all my tutoring.
I believe that preparation is key, as a tutor I first look to benchmark my students current level of understanding, identifying key areas to focus on and strengthen. I can also advise on the development of a long term revision systems based on recognised systems (such as spaced repetition), which promote the long term storage and retrieval of information this helps avoid the stress and panic associated with cramming in the weeks before the exam.
