Information about Alan
I am an appointed A-Level Mathematics and Physics Examiner with over a decade of examining experience and more than 30 years’ teaching across sixth form, college and independent schools, as well as within the Ministry of Defence.
I bring both examiner insight and real-world applied experience into my teaching, helping students develop strong problem-solving skills, clear understanding, and the exam technique needed to achieve top results.
I specialise in GCSE and A-Level students aiming for high grades, particularly those who feel capable but underperform in exams, students seeking A/A* results, and those preparing for competitive university applications.
My teaching is highly structured and personalised. I set regular independent work, mark it personally, and provide weekly feedback to both student and parent so progress is always clear and measurable.
Lessons are delivered online via Microsoft Teams, with all materials available for ongoing revision through BitPaper.

Alan is a great tutor. In the very first session with my son (doing A Level Further Maths), Alan came prepared with specialised material to cover a specific topic. Alan adjusted the pace according to my son’s level and covered more material than originally anticipated. My son was very happy after that and felt he had fully understood a topic he had found tricky.

Alan has been supporting my daughter who is in Year 13 taking A-level maths. He has been an excellent tutor bringing experience both as a maths teacher and examiner.
