Information about Ben
1. I`m a keen athlete (injury-allowing) who likes to and has tried a variety of sports and activities. Favourites have included rugby, boxing, Brazilian jiu-jitsu but due to present circumstances I`m doing a fair bit of running at the moment.
2. I enjoy travel, particularly to Spanish speaking countries (I`ve found travelling is made infinitely more rewarding when you speak the language) and am keen to get a few more languages under my belt as I go on in life. At the moment, I`m having a good go at German.
3. A fair degree of intellectual curiosity has made me an avid reader. Whilst history has taken up a great deal of this, I also enjoy fictional, scientific, political and economic literature. Neuroscience is the current flavour of the month.
4. I love almost all animals, particularly dogs. Happiest with a good book and a snout resting on a lower (sometimes upper) limb.
Availability: Hours flexible, from 9am to 6pm on weekdays. Hours on weekends may be available on request.
*Covid Update*: I am primarily working from home throughout the lockdown, but happy to conduct face to face teaching if needed.
Willing to travel: 4 miles
Experience: Having graduated from Manchester in July 2019, I`m currently in the process of waiting for a nerve injury to heal so I can pursue my life`s ambition of joining the British Army. Concurrently, I`m applying for various graduate schemes and other jobs starting in September 2020 just in case the aforementioned injury won`t play ball. To fill the time, I`m doing charity work at my local foodbank and the Felix Project, as well as learning German at the Goethe Institut in central London.
As someone who was tutored during his formal education, I believe I understand better than most what makes a good tutor. Whilst command of the subject is paramount, the ability to build rapport with a young learner lacking in confidence also plays a huge part. Self-esteem is absolutely integral to good academic performance, and I would like very much to pass on the incredibly beneficial experiences afforded to me by my tutors to young people who are struggling, and as a result, are not currently fulfilling their potential. Having experienced teaching when learning to teach the English language to foreign students, I can say with complete honesty that it is one of the most terrifying things I have ever experienced. It was also simultaneously one of the most rewarding, and it really put the hook in me. I think I can do an even better job on a one-to-one basis.
