Information about Sue
An experienced and fully qualified teacher.
Although I am based in North West Essex and am familiar with how most of the local schools` work, online teaching means I can be much more flexible geographically. I will try my best to complement any work which has been set by individual schools and provide much needed speaking practice, which can be overlooked in remote teaching.
I am friendly, flexible and patient and understand the difficulty pupils sometimes face in the classroom and aim to increase motivation and develop confidence, so that pupils take control of their own learning. Pupils are, of course, all different and I will work together with you to tailor lessons to individuals, whatever their level of ability.
I am familiar with the requirements of exams and the National Curriculum at all levels in the subjects I tutor, including the new specifications.
Availability: For the foreseeable future, I am only teaching online, which means I can be more flexible about location. I hope to be able to resume face-to-face lessons within 10 miles of my home town when the situation wirh Covid-19 settles.
Willing to travel: Home Only
Experience: I have taught German and French in comprehensive schools since 1982 and was Head of Modern Languages in an OFSTED-rated outstanding school for 12 years. I have been a GCSE and IGCSE German examiner for one of the main boards. I have been tutoring GCSE, IGCSE, IB and A level pupils for six years, all of whom have improved their grades.
I retired from full time classroom teaching six years ago and, since then, have concentrated on one to one tuition, which I love, because it is possible to establish an individual relationship with each pupil.

My daughter had several German lessons with Sue prior to lockdown - she is a qualified teacher with years of experience, knows the different exam boards, and also what examiners are looking for in students work. My daughter was taking GCSE German, and needed a little extra help, although was a little reticent in having a tutor. Sue was absolutely fantastic in helping her improve her confidence in both the spoken and written word. My daughter is now doing A level German, and says that Sue helped her a great deal. Lockdown has been a great disappointment for all GCSE students, unable to show their potential in an exam setting, but I have no hesitation in recommending Sue as a tutor.

I needed to find a German tutor for my daughter, to work mostly on the speaking element of the GCSE as this has been causing mass anxiety for my daughter. Sue has be absolutely fabulous, has really helped my daughter leading up to her mocks. I wouldn`t hesitate to recommend Sue to anyone looking for a German language tutor.

I have been studying with Sue for a month or so and am thoroughly enjoying it. She clearly puts a lot into planning each lesson prior to meeting and has so much experience as a teacher and current examiner. I would highly recommend her for any level of French.
