I qualified as a Biology and Chemistry teacher in 1994 and have been loving the job ever since. I offer expert tuition, combined with a kind and patient approach to students of all abilities. I live near Saffron Walden and until recently worked full time at a sixth form college in Cambridge. I have been an examiner for GCSE and A level Biology for 17 years, and use this experience to help students learn how to structure answers to gain full credit. I have tutored on a casual basis for many years, helping the children of friends and acquaintances, with great success. I am now tutoring full time.
Each lesson is tailored to the needs of the student. This could be by teaching essential factual knowledge or helping students understand what they have been taught at school. A very important part of the job is helping students with exam technique: What exactly is the question asking me? How do I go about answering it? What specialist terminology is essential in the answer? If required I can focus on study skills and revision techniques which will help factual recall and understanding. I can provide a set of notes to accompany all the topics studied and sets of exam practice questions if necessary. Lessons are always varied and could include animations, quizzes, videos, practice questions, mind maps and much more.

Monday-Wednesday 9am-6pm. Please be aware that I only tutor from home, I do not travel or offer online tuition.

Experience: I have worked in a variety of schools and colleges, so am experienced in helping students of all ability in the 11-18 age group. My work in an international sixth form college has helped me develop a particular expertise in helping students whose first language is not English. I have worked extensively with home-schooled students.
