Information about Aimee
I am a Durham University graduate that studied Natural Sciences! I did modules involving biology, physics and maths as science is always something I`ve found super interesting! I am now studying for my Doctorate in Quantum Biology at the University of Surrey. Learning the processes occurring inside your body and the plants around you in biology has always fascinated me and I enjoy sharing that passion. Outside of my degree I am involved in college rowing and I was also the social secretary for my college badminton club. I also enjoy dancing, skiing and playing video games.
My lessons tend to be tailored around what the student is currently learning in class in order to give them that extra confidence or boost if they`re feeling left behind by their peers however, I am happy to focus on specific topics the student is struggling with if they come to me with what they would like to work on.
I like to find easy ways to remember things such as rhymes or acronyms so when you`re in an exam environment, a little prompt you`ve remembered can help you get that bit further (I have taken exams every year for the past 6 years so I am well aware how stressful they can be!). It is for this reason a lot of my techniques are visual prompts - a diagram can get you a long way in structuring a biology question. With regards to maths, I believe practice is the best method for improvement therefore I talk through a lot of past paper questions to really get students familiar with them and the steps to follow when answering longer mark questions (such as simultaneous equations).
From experience I found a major increase in confidence when a student is able to get through a question on their own and they`re able to look at how far they`ve come. It provides them with the motivation they may have needed to continue wanting to learn as I`m aware of how difficult it can be to get yourself to study if you find something incredibly challenging. It is for this reason that I like to make my lessons a fun environment and not simply a bombardment of facts they must learn.
Availability: Very flexible as lessons will currently be held online. I have some availability for in-person lessons.
Willing to travel: 5 miles
Experience: I have been tutoring since I was 16. I was employed by my old school to tutor a small group for their science GCSE and all of them passed C or above. I have tutored younger students at maths sessions in form time at my school. I have also offered support in AS Physics lessons.
In more recent years, I have over 1000 hours of experience tutoring online in mathematics and physics, including over 800 on the MyTutor platform.
DBS Check: Yes
