Information about Colin
Prizewinning Oxford PhD graduate with extensive and highly successful tutoring experience.
Literature is my passion, as is teaching. Close reading is one of my greatest strengths: I can see, and help students see, what is at work in a text. This fosters passion and interest in my students; at an examination level, it translates into successful grades. I came first in the year, each year, at university I can help any student to excel, too.
I am fluent in English and French, and research and publish on both. I am happy to teach both language and literature. Specialist in resits and intensive courses.
I have demonstrable experience (and testimonials) in raising exam performance: my last student improved from C-B to A* at A-Level English Literature in a matter of months - indeed, he ultimately came first in the country in A-Level English Literature. I have also had great success helping students gain entry to a variety of well-known prep and senior schools; my tutees have won many scholarships (Magdalen English scholarship; Eton King`s scholarship in English).
Over many years, I have refined a supportive, informed, and question-based teaching style that brings out the best in my students while providing the highest quality of support and creative and intellectual input.
I can help with any age, having taught students from primary age to university level. Please let me know your goals and I will shape an education to suit them.
Availability: I am available every day (morning till evening), and can work in Oxford or London.
I can teach in my centrally located Oxford apartment, or travel to you. (During the Covid pandemic, I`m available to teach online.)

Feedback For Colin (3)
I have been working with Dr Colin for the most part of my final month heading towards by CAIE A Levels. I do A Level English Language and until I met Dr Colin, I worked on my own. Dr Colin`s help has played a major role in my overall English Development, especially in writing. Our usual procedure is to mark and discuss a paper and I find Dr Colin`s help to be very professional and punctual, he is also easy to approach and understanding. Most importantly, he is very well aware of the subject content and is able to provide a completely different view about the subject. Therefore, I would recommend Dr Colin to anyone that is looking for help with English!!!
I contacted Colin after my daughter decided to re-apply to read English at Oxford. Colins impressive credentials set him out to be an excellent tutor, but I believe he exceeded expectations.
As a tutor he is reliable, patient, and supportive. In English it can often be that a student feels afraid to experiment with opinion and analysis, but Colin always creates an environment in which she feels comfortable and stimulated. After every session she comes to be me buzzing.
Colin has provided her with a great breadth of material, derived from his impressive and extensive knowledge of both mainstream and more unusual texts. He has also gone into great depth with her too, stretching her analytical skills and facilitating a more mature style of writing and thinking. I can give him nothing but praise.
Colin is an excellent tutor. He is always well prepared and very organised to help my son`s entrance exam. He is professional and quite familiar with the syllabus, uses many different materials include past exam papers of the specific school we aimed for.
