I am a highly experienced Head of History of over 25 years in both state and independent schools. I have extensive and very successful experience of tutoring students at all levels including school entry examinations, GCSE, A Level, IB, Pre-U, Oxbridge entrance and also undergraduate and taught research level. I have designed tuition packages for students from KS3 upwards and have considerable experience in delivering both GCSE and A Level exam courses from beginning to end. I am very happy to work with parents and students to design teaching programmes at GCSE or A Level that will take students from the very beginning of the course to success in the final exams. Indeed, I have tutored a number of individuals from their first exploration of the subject in KS3, through GCSE and then on to A Level success. Alternatively I offer intensive revision sessions over the short term, or indeed just a couple of lessons to address a particular issue.
I have written extensively on education and continue to design and deliver training courses for history teachers and training on behalf of the exam boards for history examiners. I have delivered over 300 conferences for major education bodies and am regularly appointed to visit schools to cover whole year group teaching in the run up to both GCSE and also A Level exams. With a national reputation for designing and delivering training, I am not only fully aware of the demands of the major exam boards, but in many cases have written the specifications. I chair national A Level conferences presenting with professional historians of international renown and I have authored a number of A Level and GCSE text books and also advise for educational publishers. I have extensive experience with the exam boards for History at the very highest level of seniority.

As a tutor I respond to the precise requirements of my tutees as individuals and I will always direct my teaching to extend personal achievement and to achieve the best possible grades for my students. I also want my students to actually enjoy their studies and to really engage with a passion for History. I have had much success in rapidly lifting achievement in classwork and examinations. In addition, I see really effective tutoring as a collaborative process from which students can feel enthused and excited by their studies - it needs to be enjoyable and to ignite a love for the subject.
