I am a Japanese language educator and a social scientist. I studied in Japan on the Japanese Ministry of Education scholarship and have a university degree in teaching Japanese as well as Level 1 of the Japanese Language Proficiency (JLPT) Test and the JETRO Business Japanese certificate. Over my post-graduate education I attended 24 courses in social sciences, history, arts, and Oriental languages. Currently a doctoral researcher at the School of Oriental and African Studies, University of London, I also work at the JLPT exam in London.
In the time I took off from my academic career I worked for a number of Japanese multinationals and SMEs. Using that experience as a Certified Cross-Cultural Trainer I give workshops on various cultural and business aspects of Japan.

Experience: I have taught Japanese for over 20 years and Sociology and Anthropology for six years. I have successfully prepared numerous students for their GCSE`s, A-levels, IB, and university examinations. I offer either support for your school/university course or full-on individual preparation for your exam as an external student. I also teach adults for business and hobby purposes and mentor undergraduate and postgraduate students for essays, dissertations and exams.
My teaching approach is flexible, consistent, and friendly. No tutorial of mine is the same, as I tailor each to the student`s specific situation at hand. I use a variety of digital and print learning materials to suit my students`wishes and needs the best possible way.
In my teaching, I use the Socratic approach to help students develop an active understanding of their subject. That means supporting them closely towards finding their own answers, refining their own analytical skills, and ultimately gaining the full ability to continue on their own. I see my student as a star in their life project and myself as a technician behind the stage ensuring that she or he realises their potential and achieves their purpose in life.

review(s) for Artour.
My husband and I had weekly Japanese lessons from Artour for a few months before our move to Tokyo. Artour was a professional and fantastic tutor. Japanese is known to be notoriously difficult but Artours lessons gave us a great foundation in Japanese.
As we only had a few months, Artour was open to structuring the lessons and covering content that we would find most useful. His lessons and the materials he put together from different resources demonstrated that he understood our learning needs. Having tailored lessons for our learning objectives was what we valued the most about our lessons.
As complete beginners, we found Artours guidance as an experienced tutor on what to cover and in what order really useful. Our objective was to have a base in Japanese. In a few months we had achieved this and were pleased with the progress we had made. We were able to pronounce, read and write the Japanese syllabaries (hiragana and katakana), had covered the basics of Japanese grammar and had an introduction to learning kanji.
A big bonus was also discussing Japanese culture with Artour giving us tips and explaining nuances, which we found really useful.
Artour gave us tips on self-studying. With his support we were able to focus on what we should learn before the next lesson. The lessons were then great for clarifying anything we hadnt understood ourselves and getting Artours feedback before moving to the following weeks content.
Artour was well-prepared, communicated clearly, was approachable and answered any questions we had. Artour was easy to contact and responsive. He was accommodating when it came to scheduling lessons at a time that worked for us.
In our final lesson, Artour advised us on what to cover next as we continued to self-study Japanese.
We would highly recommend Artour as a tutor for Japanese but also for other subjects due to his excellent professional, but friendly, manner and methods as a tutor.
Very good teacher - highly knowledgeable, friendly, patient, and extremely adaptable for individual learning.
Artour has been teaching me Japanese at a beginner level, and has already been a huge help in keeping me moving forward.
He can teach in the style that best suits you. He can teach from a detailed grammatical approach or a more simplified natural approach. He can leave you to progress at your own pace, or push you to do your best if you think that`s what you need.
His lessons are very flexible and he is always ready to answer all of my questions. I recommend him very highly.
Fantastic tutor, really helpful and reliable. Great for learning languages :) worth the money
Very good job
