Information about Caitlin

Hi! I am currently studying a Politics PhD at the University of Manchester. I graduated just recently from the International Relations Masters course that I studied at the University of Sheffield. I graduated in 2021 with a high First Class Honours Bachelors degree in History and Politics. I never once received a grade lower than a First throughout my years at university. I also received A grades in my history and politics A-Levels, achieving 94% in one of my Politics exam. I consider myself to be a specialist in the areas of history and politics thanks to the diverse, exemplary university courses I have undertook, as well as other activities I have participated in. For example, I have completed the UK 101 leadership programme and I have also produced my own political podcast. The aim of which was to educate disengaged students in Manchester on the importance of local politics, by discussing the political landscape and by answering commonly asked questions about local leaders. This is currently available on Spotify. I am also learning to speak fluently in Italian.

I am currently studying in the politics department at the University of Manchester, which is consistently ranked as one of the top politics departments worldwide. The course here has allowed me to further expand on my political knowledge and essay-writing skills. The modules I have studied both here, and during my undergraduate degree, have allowed me to specialise in areas such as, but are not limited to, American politics, Middle-Eastern politics, Contemporary British politics, voting behaviour and the Second World War.

As a student myself, I understand all too well the high levels of stress and anxiety that pupils go through during the run up to exam season. However, exam stress can be easily managed and I hope to help pupils feel less anxious and more confident for their exams.

Availability: At the moment, I am very flexible with when I am available. On all week days I am available from 8:00 - 21:00, and on weekends I can do 9:00 - 18:00. However, if you need a time slot outside of these hours, do not hesitate to contact me, I will always try my best to work around your schedule.

Willing to travel: Home Only

Experience: I have been tutoring since 2018 and have experience tutoring individuals and groups. I have proven results with one of my current students going from a grade 6 to a grade 9 within three months of me tutoring her. Moreover, I am very much aware that many of my students will be planning to apply for university in the upcoming years, so I try to encourage them to start thinking about their applications as early as possible. Therefore, I encourage my English students to enter writing competitions on a bi-monthly basis, in which I will help them through the entire process as many top-rated universities across the UK, including Oxbridge, find competitions like such, to be invaluable. Many of my students have won these competitions in the past and it has not only worked to strengthen their applications, but has also increased their confidence and writing skills. I have also completed courses such as Educating and Engaging Others which have enhanced my ability to produce fascinating lessons that keep my students engaged and interested.

Lessons structure:

Every single one of my lessons are tailored specifically for that student. I always accommodate for their preferred learning style to allow them to reach their full potential. My lessons are always varied, for example, in my English lessons, I will expose my students to a range of different writing structures to fully prepare them for exams. I also like to use resources such as Kahoot and Jamboard to make the most out of lessons. If a student is studying politics, it is imperative they are kept up to date with current world events, therefore I incorporate this into my lessons. This allows the student to ask any relevant questions, debate and broaden their knowledge which will ultimately assist them in their future exams.

I am happy to record each of my lessons so that my students can use this for revision later down the line. It also allows the parent to stay in the loop as they can see for themselves what we are doing during class time. I will always keep the parent up to date with regular updates on their child’s progress. I have been acknowledged by parents in the past for doing this.

GCSE English texts I specialise in include:
- An Inspector Calls
- Macbeth
- A Christmas Carol
- Of Mice and Men
- Animal Farm
- Much Ado About Nothing
- Frankenstein

I am also very familiar with both the Relationships and Power and Conflict poetry clusters (AQA), as well as the four clusters (Relationships, Place Belonging, Conflict, Time) for Edexcel.

I am more than happy to take part in a trial session so that as a parent, you are satisfied I meet your tutoring needs and that your child feels comfortable and happy with me as their tutor.

As a parent who has scoured the internet to find great tutors, I can truly say Caitlin is one of them. True great tutors are like gold dust so, so hard to come by. One`s which are trustworthy, reliable, hard workers, pay attention and most of all give you honest feedback. This is something I really wanted and needed. So, so many will tell me what I wanted to hear and not what I needed. This does not help me or my children. Caitlin is something different. She has been amazing. She has always delivered what she promised. Grades have improved significantly and confidence is at an all time high. I cannot thank her enough. I would highly recommend to all. You truly will be impressed as we have been.
