I am a friendly and enthusiastic teacher who has worked in primary education for almost 24 years. I have worked in all year groups from Nursery up to Year 6. I live with my husband, my two children and my dog. When I am not teaching I enjoy reading, exercising, dog walks and spending time with my family and friends.

I believe that every child learns in a different way and I take this into account when planning and teaching lessons in line with the curriculum. I assess each child`s individual learning needs and adapt my teaching accordingly. My aim is to build positive relationships with children to support them in becoming confident and independent learners.

Experience: I started my career in education in 2002 and since then I have been employed as both a qualified teacher and teaching assistant in various Derbyshire schools. Over the years I have gained experience of teaching children in whole classes, small groups and on a one to one basis. I have worked with children in all year groups from Nursery up to Year 6 and across a wide range of ability levels. My knowledge of the National Curriculum is accurate and up to date across all primary year groups.

I have lots of experience in preparing children for their Year 6 SATs, including the Reading, Writing, Maths and SPaG tests (Spelling, Punctuation and Grammar), both in the classroom and on a one to one basis. I have supported many children in achieving results that have exceeded expectations, including my own daughter who last year achieved greater depth across all the SATs assessments.

In addition to this, I have very good knowledge of the requirements for the Year 1 phonics screening test and I have supported many children in successfully passing this test. I also have experience of assisting children in Year 4 to pass the statutory multiplication tables check. My vast wealth of experience has also involved working with children in all other primary year groups to ensure they meet or exceed end of year expectations. I have also successfully taught many children with a wide range of additional and special needs, including those with an EHCP, as well as providing a broader depth of knowledge, understanding and challenge to higher ability children.

I have completed additional training to ensure my knowledge remains relevant and up to date through continued professional development. For example, I have completed an in depth Autism Awareness course and I am trained in Reading Recovery techniques which accelerate children’s progress in reading and writing skills.

As well as the wide range of teaching experience that I have, being a mum of two children has given me a greater depth of understanding in how children learn. At home I provide my own children with fun and practical experiences to support them with developing reading, writing and number skills.

I can provide your child with one to one personalised lessons that are tailored to their individual learning needs. Lessons will ensure they maintain good progress and support them in meeting or exceeding age related expectations.

I love teaching and find it very rewarding because I enjoy supporting children in achieving their full potential by teaching personalised, stimulating and fun lessons.
