I am a full time tutor specialising in A level Biology. Tuition may be face to face for local students but for the majority of students will be online via zoom. One to one sessions are student-focused and may involve explanations and revision of more challenging topics, active revision or looking at how to answer Biology exam questions more effectively to gain more marks. On Tues and Thurs evenings I run year 12 and 13 AQA and OCR Biology Booster groups aimed at A/A* students (potential medics, vets, dentists etc) or a catch-up group for those students who may be struggling a little with Biology but need a higher grade to get on a chosen course. The group sessions have proved to be effective for students in improving grades and more cost effective for parents. Please ask for further details.

I have been a teacher of Science and Biology for several years in schools in York and Harrogate and a full time tutor for the last 8 years. Prior to this I was in industry and have always enjoyed the challenge of making Science relevant to students in terms of everyday applications and technological progress.

For the last 20 years I have also been an A level Biology and GCSE examiner for AQA. This enables me to help students with understanding specification content, revision and study skills and most importantly, exam technique - how to answer those really tricky questions! I am up to date in teaching new specification Biology A level for AQA, OCR and Edexcel Salters courses. I have also taught GCSE Science AQA, OCR Gateway and Edexcel IGCSE courses in Biology, Chemistry and Physics.

All recent students have achieved at or above expected levels, most being able to opt for their first choice university courses.

Experience: I taught Science to GCSE and A level Biology, along with A level Vocational Science and Health and Social Care for 7 years in schools in York and Harrogate.

I have worked as an examiner for AQA for 20 years, marking A level Biology and GCSE Science papers. More recently I have marked the new Biology A level specification exams so am familiar with the level of knowledge, Maths skills, application required and essay techniques.

I have now been tutoring full time for 6 years, mainly A level Biology and GCSE Science. I am experienced in tutoring AQA, OCR and Edexcel SNAB specifications at A level and all exam boards at GCSE including IGCSE Sciences.
