Information about Tristan
Hi Tutorhunt!
I am an experienced tutor based in South London with a friendly, individualised approach to teaching. With more than 1000 hours of teaching maths and sciences to students of all ages and backgrounds, I believe showing students more than one way to approach a problem empowers them to solve it and understand it more comprehensively.
An example! Susie stares at a problem I pose to them involving solving two simultaneous equations with two unknown variables and is baffled. Susie is uncomfortable with algebra but is a visual thinker and enjoys looking at graphs and data. I proceed to encourage Susie to take `path B` : re-arrange the two equations and graph them on a plot. Susie quickly finds that they intersect at a specific point and sees that this is solution where these equations both hold true!
This is a short and sweet anecdote which represents my favourite way of teaching: playing to the student`s strength builds their confidence and allows them to compare thinking techniques they know to equivalent techniques they are not as strong with.
I grew up in Boston, USA, and now live in South London; enjoying hobbies such as tennis and tinkering on the piano.
