Information about Lauren

I am a warm, friendly and experienced professional tutor based in Central London. Having tutored for over 8 years, I place great emphasis on getting to know each of my students and understanding how best I can help them. I will spend our first session listening to you and identifying where you feel that you need help - whether it is confidence building, skills or knowledge gaps, or practice and encouragement. We will then work together to create a personal strategy in line with your needs and time frame. As someone who received extensive personal tutoring myself, I know how important it is for a tutor to be patient, understanding and encouraging. I strive to create an open and positive learning environment where you feel supported, encouraged, and empowered to achieve your goals.
I currently balance personal tutoring with my legal training (trainee solicitor) and volunteering work for Asylum Welcome. Personal tutoring made an immense difference to my academic studies and life as a teenager, and was pivotal to my success in both my GCSE`s and A-Levels. I now want to give back and provide students with the same level of support and encouragement that I am so grateful to have received.

History GCSE
2010-2014:
Personal tutor for two students undertaking GCSE history. After 6 months of tutoring, both students achieved A*s at GCSE. One had been predicted a C grade, the other a B grade. Our lessons focused on: essay writing technique, writing skills, revision tactics, memorising strategies, exam practice, and coursework guidance.

Law, A-Level, 2016-2017:
After 4 months of tutoring, my student achieved an A* in Law at A-Level and has successfully gone on to study Law at Oxford University.
Our lessons included: concepts of law, essay writing technique, legal writing skills, revision tactics and strategies, and exam practice. I also provided support in the form of University applications and interview practice: guided personal statement writing, application advice and review, mock interviews.

Fine Art, GCSE and A-Level:
Tutored three students across GCSE and A-Level, all of which received A*s.
Provided detailed feedback on sketchbooks and portfolios, painting and drawing techniques, took students on field trips to galleries and exhibitions in London

Mentoring, Kenya
Business development mentor for entrepreneurs aged 16-35 in Kericho, Kenya, as part of a Micro-Finance programme. Provided one-to-one consultancy work on business skills including: finance & accounts, marketing, customer growth and strategy, presentation and pitching skills.

University Applications and Graduate Job Application Guidance, 2014-2018:
I have helped over 20 students secure full time graduate positions in law firms, banks, art galleries, and NGO`s. These include: Magic circle law firms (top 5 UK law firms), Sotheby`s, The BBC, Medicine Sans Frontiers, Oxfam, The World Health Organisation, Goldman Sachs, and Officer roles within the British Army. I offer support throughout the application and interview process, offering CV reviews, cover letter guidance and reviews, application advice, interview mentoring and practice, and helping students prepare for psychometric tests. Having secured a Training Contract at a law firm ranking first place in the Global leagues, I have undergone rigorous psychometric tests, applications, interviews, and a 3 week long assessed internship and can provide valuable insight into the application and assessment process.

University Applications:
I attended University College London (UCL) for my undergraduate history degree, followed by a law conversion at the University of Law where I received a distinction and won first place in the University of Law Commercial Negotiation Competition. I have since helped my students gain entry to Universities including: Oxford, Cambridge, UCL, Durham, Central School of St Martin`s, Chelsea School of Fine Art, Kings College London, Imperial, and Exeter University. I provide tailor made and detailed assistance with: Personal statements, essay writing, interview practice, and advice as to skills/experience gaps and identifying the relevant necessary work experience.

5/5 Rating

My daughter arrived in the UK six months ago. She is a non-native English speaker and currently undertaking her GCSE`s, and we asked Lauren to tutor our daughter English. After three sessions, we have already seen a marked difference and progress in Tala`s English. Lauren`s methodology and the structuring of the lessons have broken down each element of the English GCSE, from how to tackle reading comprehension, to the techniques of reading and writing. She is an organized and punctual teacher, and we strongly recommend Lauren as an English tutor.
