I am a recently semi-retired English teacher and Head of English. I have a real passion for my subject and aim to share this with my students, as well as increasing their confidence and understanding of the subject and the key exam strategies and skills required to achieve high grades. A supportive, caring but calm approach ( plus humour when necessary!) is my style and my constant engagement with exam marking allows me to keep closely involved with specimen papers and changes in marking and subject content. I believe that the personal attention,structured approach and atmosphere that can be developed in one-to-one lessons help enormously in developing not only students` progress but also their self -esteem and enjoyment I feel that my reinforcement of key skills ,detailed explanations of texts and tasks combined with constant encouragement of students to discuss any uncertainties they may have is a sucessful approach.

Availability: I am available to tutor in the evenings and weekends. Morning and afternoon sessions during the holidays can be arranged , especially when coursework and exam deadlines draw near .

Experience: I have taught English Literature and Language at Key Stages 3, 4 and 5 for over 30 years. I have extensive experience of GCSE and AS and A Level (Literature, Language and the combined Language/Literature ) for several exam boards and have a proven record of excellent exam results. My primary aim and interest have always been to support all students individually, according to their needs, and this has included preparing candidates for Oxbridge and Ucas entrance, providing the extra resources required for GCSE and A Level resit exams and supporting pupils between the ages of 10-18 who require additional literacy and comprehension teaching. I have been a senior examiner for OCR and CIE for over 15 years and am also a team leader and exam reviser for 2 boards . I also have experience of teaching spoken and written English to adult learners for whom English is not their first language.
