Information about Jan
Experienced Software Engineer and Code Club Leader with an enthusiastic, patient, confident and friendly manner. Educated to Degree standard, and always learning. Also a Relax Kids Coach, bringing calm into daily life.
Having attained a BA in Business and Computer Science, I enjoyed being a Software Engineer for several years before having my own children. After that, I did not want to return to full-time work so sought out a rewarding job with Swindon Libraries as a Library Assistant. I am still in libraries but now as a Digital Assistant and running Code Clubs for children aged 8-13. Code Clubs involve helping small groups of children to learn to do computer coding, mainly through a programme called Scratch, and developing the type of things that children love - games and animations.
I love learning and wish to pass on this enthusiasm through tutoring. To this end I am currently studying Level 3 Education and Training, and researching the Computing curriculum through an online STEM course.
As a Relax Kids Coach I deliver after school clubs to help children learn about themselves and deal with their emotions better, through proven techniques. Only by being calm and confident can we learn, and best support learning.
I am also a Brownie Leader and Beanstalk Reading Helper. In my spare time, I enjoy walking, painting, crochet and knitting, and sewing!
Availability: I am available most evenings (apart from Thursdays) and at the weekend.
Willing to travel: 10 miles
Experience: I have experience of working with small groups of children with coding.
