Information about Annie

Salut à tous !

My name is Annie and I am an incredibly passionate Francophile wanting to share my expertise and love for the French language.

I am currently working as a newly qualified French teacher at a school in Stoke on Trent, and am at the half way stage of my two years on the demanding, yet very rewarding, Teach First programme.

I have experience working with children from 10 years old to young adults, through my current role as a classroom teacher, and previous roles as a tutor and English Language Assistant at a hospitality and catering college in Nice, France.

I particularly enjoy working with students one-on-one and in small groups, as I am a strong believer in personalising lessons to best cater for my students` specific needs and interests.

I understand that languages do not come easily to everybody and can cause a lot of learner anxiety. I feel that through my approachable, laid back, yet intuitive style, I will be able to provide the relaxed atmosphere needed to maximise progress in language learning.

As previously mentioned, I aim to plan my lessons around students` interests. I believe this is essential to boosting and maintaining intrinsic motivation levels. In the past, I have focused lessons around reality TV, music, food and even video games in the target language.

I also try to match activities to students` needs.

I realise that some students will prefer to sit down and be able to concentrate on worksheets to consolidate their learning.

For other students, who find it difficult to concentrate for long periods of time, I try to include as many games as possible. In the past, I have included board games, card games and treasure hunts into my lessons.

I am currently living in Shropshire, however I will be moving to Newcastle under Lyme in April and so I will be available for tutoring sessions in the Newcastle / Stoke area.

Availability: Monday, Tuesday, Thursday, Friday evenings after 4.30pm

Saturday and Sunday all day

Willing to travel: 15 miles

Experience: I am a newly qualified teacher and have worked for one and a half years at a secondary school in Stoke on Trent. Within this role I have had experience with many students for whom English is not their first language and who have special educational needs. I have particular knowledge on working with students with dyspraxia.

I have tutored two ten year old students for secondary school entrance exams.

While working in France as an English Language Assistant in a college for students aged between 18 and 24, I had eight regular tutoring clients between the ages of 11 and 21.
