My name is Rebecca and I am an experienced English tutor from Knowle, Solihull. I am very friendly and trustworthy, and I am regularly approached by family, friends and peers for help and advice on their studies. I am affiliated with both Cardiff University and the University of Bristol, and I have recently completed a PhD in English Literature. I am also an Associate Fellow of the Higher Education Academy. I can provide teaching and learning support for both English Language and Literature at all levels (with special expertise in English Literature). I have absolute faith that I will be able to help you or your child to see English Language and Literature with fresh eyes!

Availability: I am available for online tutorials. I am also able to provide bespoke teaching materials upon request.

Experience: I completed my teaching qualification with distinction in June 2018, and I have recently gained accreditation from the Higher Education Academy (leading professional body for higher education teaching in the UK). I have worked as a lecturer and seminar tutor in universities for the last three years, but I also have experience teaching GCSE and A-level pupils, both in one-on-one and group sessions. I am therefore familiar with the current GCSE and A level syllabuses, as well as current teaching practices. I have a wide-range of skills and expertise, and I am particularly good at providing students with any tools they might be lacking in their approach to the evaluation and analysis of literary texts. I have taught everything from Ovid and Shakespeare to Wuthering Heights and Sylvia Plath, and I am well-equipped to provide guidance on any sort of literary material. I also have some tried-and-tested strategies to help students and pupils improve their skills in essay writing, spelling and grammar, critical reading and close analysis. My approach to tutoring takes into account everything that I have learnt in the diverse teaching environments I have encountered over the last five years. I always try to put my students at ease and treat them as equals. My previous students have told me in feedback sessions that I am particularly good at explaining `difficult and challenging ideas`. I aim to offer a teaching programme designed to address the specific needs of my student and informed by their ‘learning style’ (audio, visual etc.). I believe in helping pupils and students to formulate practical approaches to English, which can be applied in different contexts, so that they can see tangible improvements in exam results!
