Information about Helen
I am an encouraging and supportive Qualified Teacher who enjoys working with children from KS1 up to KS4 to address difficulties with aspects of education as well as providing extension for some. As a Private Tutor I enjoy being able to spend time working with individual pupils in achieving their personal learning goals.
I employ my academic experience as a Qualified Teacher and combine it with my personal life experiences to enable me to meet a wide variety of tutoring requests successfully.
Success breeds success. Clear learning goals and regular assessment enables all pupils to see their progress.
I provide individually tailored sessions to assist pupils in achieving school based targets and to maintain progress in line with or above national expectations from primary up to GCSE level.
I develop good relationships with those I tutor and pupils look forward to my sessions. I am able to engage the most reluctant of learners by ensuring lessons are lively and engaging through the use of practical activities and a range of visual aids to support learning.
I have a wide range of experience in teaching and tutoring pupils with Dyslexia, Dyspraxia, ADHD, Autism and, more recently,Dyscalculia. As a parent of boys with many of these special educational needs, I understand the particular challenges and frustrations of coping with education and the impact on daily life for both parent and pupil.
Experience as a teacher and a parent has provided me with a bank of skills and strategies to help individual pupils overcome difficulties. I am able to spend time with parents supporting them in developing strategies to overcome the everyday challenges their child faces,e.g personal organisation, new routines, homework, tackling behaviour issues through positive praise.
The greatest impact I make on individual pupils is to encourage a positive attitude and thereby develop a believe in themselves as a learner.
Through positive experiences in each session all pupils, irrespective of age, are willing to face greater challenges in their learning. This builds confidence.
Confidence and positive learning experiences are vital in climbing up the ladder of success in learning.
