Information about Ben

I have taught law in various universities since October 1997, at both undergraduate and postgraduate level.I taught at Middlesex University from October 1999 until December 2014,(when I decided to take voluntary redundancy). I now teach part-time at different universities - in the current academic year I have been teaching at the universities of Reading, Westminster and Kingston.

Previously I worked as a lawyer for around 8 years in total.

The subjects I teach are Contract, Tort, Public law, English Legal System, Employment law (my specialism) and Consumer law.

I have a real passion for teaching, attested to by students I have taught. I have regularly received pleasing feedback from students via the formal university feedback system, and informally students often tell me how much they enjoy my classes.I believe I have an aptitude for communicating often complex material in a very clear, enthusiastic and stimulating way.

Here is the relevant part of an email from the Dean of the School of Law of Middlesex University, dated 19/12/2014

Ben, ...

I want to take this opportunity to say that it has been an undiluted pleasure to have you in our team. Your professionalism and value to our students will be sorely missed, as will your commitment to where we are trying to get to. I do hope that you will take some time to think about where you may want to go: I do want to indicate strongly that I think you will make a fabulous law teacher, and express the conviction that your experience in employment law means that if you undertook a PhD you would almost certainly be able to make an original contribution to knowledge. I trust that should you consider this route you will actively consider us as providers, and I do hope that one of the scenarios that may arise in future is that you re-apply to come back to us.

Our institution, colleagues and most importantly our students have benefited from their experience working and learning alongside you, and for that you have my sincere thanks. Please do count on me as a referee should you wish me to support any future applications you may make...

Sincerely,

Joshua
