Information about Smaragda

Hi everyone! I am a medical student studying in London and have been tutoring since I was in secondary school with my specialty being GCSE and IB Chemistry, Maths and Biology. I have experience tutoring all the following UK exam boards extensively in the aforementioned subjects: AQA, CIE, Edexcel and OCR. I finished in the IBDP with a 43/47, including all 7s in my Higher level subjects - Biology, Chemistry and Mathematics. I know how hard studying and university applications can be, which is why I am always there for support when students are stressed or when they need exam tips!

I also tutor in two medical school admission tests used in the UK - the BMAT and UCAT. Having scored highly on both of these and understanding the stress and pressure one is under, I have revised the best learning methods for these exams, always depending on the time available!

I structure my lessons in the way that my students can learn best, so I feel it is important to always start off by having a conversation in which we set out your best learning techniques. For example, visual learners often learn very well through diagrams and videos. Regardless of learning technique, I like to focus on firstly understanding the fundamentals of a topic and getting in a lot of practise with past paper questions.

A `normal` lesson can go many different ways! You decide the pace at which we go at, which topic you feel less confident in and how you prefer going about learning it! The key to learning is understanding the fundamentals!

Tutoring goes both ways! I often learn from my students, and studying medicine means I devote my life to learning. I also love teaching, and aspire to become a professor one day! I hope that my passion for science and maths will inspire you to do well and most importantly, enjoying your learning!

Availability: I have quite a flexible programme, and so I am available on both weekdays and weekends. Some days I may be available during morning and early afternoon hours as well during the week :)

Willing to travel: Home Only

Experience: I started tutoring in secondary school, specifically in Chemistry, Biology, Maths and Physics. Joining university I started online tutoring, choosing to specialize in Chemistry and Biology GCSE and IB at higher level. Most of my experience since coming to university has been online tutoring.
