Information about Robin
I`m a children`s author and former BBC editor with 15 years experience of teaching writing in schools worldwide. I`m not a teacher, but I know my way around the primary curriculum having taught creative writing in hundreds of schools. Prior to the lockdown I was leading able writers and reluctant writers workshops for Authors Abroad. With international travel on hold, I`ve started to offer private lessons via Zoom.
Your child can choose from 40 story themes from my resources website Creative Writing Club. Ill show them how to whiz through planning the story and in the first session theyll start writing their own epic tale. Using their story idea as a way in, well revise grammar, build vocabulary and get them more confident about their writing. Its a proven method that will help to catch up with lost learning.
I also offer sessions for children who are cruising through their schools Zooms and need to be stretched. These learners often love the idea of working with a published author who can introduce them to advanced techniques and start to take their writing to another level. Whatever your learning aims, please get in touch and we can discuss your childs needs.
Availability: I have session availability at various times - during the week and after school. I also run creative writing groups.
Willing to travel: 50 miles
Experience: I`ve written three popular historical children`s book series including Spartapuss
My graphic novel series for teens - London Deep - was a Recommended Read for World Book Day.
I edited the BBC Homepage and websites for News International, Channel 4 and an EFL magazine for Scholastic.
I`ve delivered writing workshops for prestigious organisations like Shakespeare`s Birthplace Trust and the Young Archaeologists.
I founded the writing resources website Creative Writing Club - with over 40 writing themes including sci-fi, history and Shakespeare
I’ve made the site free during lockdown - and I use it in my Zoom lessons.
I`ve worked for Authors Abroad for 9 years teaching Able and Reluctant writers in over 100 UK schools and nine different countries.
I was on the editorial board of the magazine English Teaching Professional.
I have a degree (2:1) in English and Drama from the University of Lancaster.
I taught English as a second language in Spain and Japan for three years.
Somewhere in my parent`s loft I have a Trinity Cert in ESOL.
I started offering private Zoom lessons in Dec 2020
