I am in my second year of a BSC in Mathematics at Reading University, achieving a 1st equivalent grade in the first year. Mathematics is my subject, obtaining an 8 at GCSE and A’s in both Mathematics and further Maths at A level.

I have been supplementing the cost of university by providing Maths tuition for friends and family throughout my first year, for 11+, GCSE’s and A Levels. I found that tuition I received to support my formal studies was extremely beneficial for both GCSE and A Level, but also provided me with the experience and structure of tuition to be able to provide that service to others.

Experience: I have tutored 3 students through their GCSE and A Levels during my first year at University. To date these have been people known to me or friends of the wider family, but this has provided the foundation and given me the confidence to be able to pursue tuition more formally.

One of the students was capable but struggled and did not enjoy Maths. Through focussed tuition over the the course of 6 months in the areas they had challenges in plus regular review and feedback of test papers, they confidently completed their Maths GCSE and received a grade 8.
