Information about Emily
With over ten years of experience in education, I have worked across a variety of settings, including as a class teacher, cover teacher, teaching assistant, and private tutor. This diverse background has given me a strong understanding of how to support learners of all ages, abilities, and learning styles, both in school and one-to-one environments.
I have extensive knowledge of the Primary National Curriculum and have successfully supported children in preparing for SATs, Phonics Screening Checks, Multiplication Tables Checks, and 11+ entrance examinations. I am passionate about helping young learners build confidence, develop strong foundations, and achieve their full potential.
In addition, I have experience supporting secondary students with GCSE English Language and English Literature. I help students develop their analytical skills, identify key language and structural features within texts, and construct clear, well-supported arguments and viewpoints in their written responses.
I also work with adult learners studying English as a Foreign Language (EFL), whether they are preparing for IELTS examinations or looking to improve their everyday communication skills. From practical conversational Englishsuch as ordering food, asking for directions, or following recipesto more formal language development, I tailor lessons to each learners goals and needs.
My teaching approach is friendly, supportive, and highly personalised. I believe every student learns differently, so I use the initial lessons to identify strengths, barriers, and areas for development. From there, I create engaging and tailored learning experiences using a combination of interactive, written, and verbal activities to help students build confidence, make progress, and enjoy learning.

Experience: My experience began with two years as a Teaching Support Assistant in a sixth form college, where I predominantly supported students working towards their GCSE qualifications. During this time, I developed a strong understanding of how to support learners preparing for examinations, improve their study skills, and build their confidence in core subjects. I then spent two years as a Teaching Support Assistant in a primary school, supporting children across the primary age range and developing a thorough understanding of the Primary National Curriculum.
Following this, I worked for one year as a cover teacher within a primary school, including undertaking a maternity cover role. This experience allowed me to teach across different year groups, adapt quickly to a variety of classroom environments, and develop strong classroom management and teaching skills.
Alongside my school-based roles, I have worked as a private tutor for the past five years, delivering both face-to-face and online lessons. Through tutoring, I have supported a wide range of students, tailoring lessons to individual needs and helping learners build confidence and make measurable progress.
I am also a qualified class teacher with five years of teaching experience. Most recently, I taught Year 6, preparing pupils for SATs and supporting their transition to secondary school. Following my return from maternity leave, I am currently teaching Year 4, giving me current and relevant experience of teaching within Key Stage 2 and an excellent understanding of progression throughout the primary years.
I have extensive experience supporting students with SATs preparation, 11+ entrance examinations, reading comprehension, grammar, spelling, punctuation, times tables, organisation, note-taking, revision techniques, essay writing, proofreading, time management, and exam techniques. I am particularly passionate about helping students develop the skills and confidence they need to become independent and successful learners.
In addition to primary education, I have supported secondary students studying GCSE English Language and English Literature, helping them to analyse texts, identify key language and structural features, and construct well-developed, evidence-based responses.
I also work with adult learners studying English as a Foreign Language (EFL), including those preparing for IELTS examinations and those seeking to improve their everyday communication skills. Whether the goal is academic success, professional development, or greater confidence in daily conversations, I create lessons that are practical, engaging, and tailored to each learner`s objectives.
My teaching style is friendly, patient, and highly personalised. I believe that strong relationships and a positive learning environment are key to success. By identifying each student`s strengths and areas for development, I create bespoke lessons that combine interactive activities, clear explanations, and effective learning strategies, enabling students to make progress while enjoying the learning process.
