Information about Steve

I am a qualified secondary school Maths Teacher with over 20 years experience, teaching and tutoring. I tutor all ages, from Year 6 to GCSE.

As you would expect, I have excellent subject knowledge and the ability to convey that knowledge and understanding to others but I also have four other qualities which in my view are essential in a good teacher, namely: respect for my students ( I never talk down to them, I listen to all that they say and am always happy to learn from them), unlimited patience, excellent confidence-building skills and a good sense of humour. Reading the feedback I have received from previous students and their parents will confirm that I have these skills. Additionally I should be happy to put you in touch with other parents of my current and past students that I have found, mainly through recommendations.

I teach all ages from 10 upwards, covering GCSE, IGCSE, A/S, Common Entrance and 11+.

Availability: I currently have availability on Tuesday mornings, afternoons and evenings from September. I prefer to teach face to face and I am happy to travel to you. If necessary I will also teach online.

I have just moved to Thakeham, near Storrington, having previously lived in Surrey.

Willing to travel: 15 miles

Experience: I have taught Maths in Secondary schools at KS3, KS4 and KS5 over a period of 10 years in State and Private schools. In addition, I have tutored during much of that time and for 10 years since retiring from school teaching.

Last year I worked in a special school, teaching secondary Maths and Further Maths to students who had not been able to work in mainstream schools. Many of the children had autism, others had ADHD or anger management issues.

I made a career change 20 years ago having previously worked as a Chartered Accountant, my last position being that of Finance Director at a large local charity, where I worked for 15 years.

We wanted extra support for our son in Yr8 who was having difficulties at school and falling behind because of slow processing and poor short term memory issues. Steve has been brilliant - in the words of my son "Steve is nice, straightforward, makes things easy to understand, explains things very well and is adaptable. He is always on time. Things are getting better at school." A quality tutor whom we would highly recommend.

Steve provided a great tutoring service our daughter who was struggling with her GCSE Maths. He was patient and kind with helpful advice. She achieved a level 5 having been predicted a 4 and was very happy with the result.

Steve has been incredibly patient and gentle with my daughter who struggles with Maths and processing information. His lessons gave her lots of encouragement, and made Maths more than tolerable for her, which is a first! Improved her Maths? Definitely. Many thanks indeed. Would recommend you without hesitation. Anna.

Steve has helped my son gain confidence in Maths and to fill any gaps in his knowledge. He has a calm, relaxed manner but pushes him to stretch himself to develop further so he is now flourishing in the subject at school.
