Information about Sarah

Hello, my name is Sarah. I have a passion for self- development and growth, through learning and practising, to improve and gain confidence. English is my favourite subject and I have a 2:1 in English Literature from the University of Greenwich. I love to read and found reading was one way of gaining insight into other worlds through imagination and creative expression. However, English is more than just reading books; it’s about inspiration and creativity that can help to develop the self, and open up new environments. Reading develops many skills including improved brain function and reduced stress, retention and understanding of new vocabulary, as well as general wellbeing.
I enjoy working within a diverse environment and meeting new people. I am reliable, dedicated to giving my best and always welcome new challenges. I am self-motivated, work well with others and able to prioritise and work to deadlines. I have excellent interpersonal and communication skills with a high level of integrity. I am very patient and understand that while a student may need to improve in an area, I need to ensure there is comprehension of a task. Good communication is key.

;;I am currently learning Arabic and Spanish for personal development, and because I have always wanted to be bilingual. ;; ;;I also enjoy keeping fit; prioritising wellbeing and adopting mindfulness whenever I can.

Availability: I work as a TA so I am in schools during the weekday however, I am available during the evenings after 6pm during the week days. I am available on the weekends; Saturday after 3pm and after 3pm on Sundays.

I am available during the weekdays in the school holidays.

Willing to travel: 1 miles

Experience: I have 6 months’ experience working as a TA within a Technical College for KS4 and 7 months as a Trainee Practitioner within a nursery setting.

My current role enables me to assist students who are working towards their GCSE, providing one to one support to students who need it most, as well as assisting the teachers in monitoring the students, ensuring they take proper notes, as well as helping them to structure sentences using correct grammar and spelling. I am also able to help build confidence in the students, calm their fears about taking exams, and gain a different view of English rather than just a subject to get a qualification in.

I tutor students within the UTC, preparing them for their GCSEs as well as students taking resits. ;; These students are sometimes removed from their main class to sit with me in a quiet area, where we can focus on the things they need help with improving and ensuring they understand what is required in their exams. ;; We do practice papers, vocabulary, dictionary work and anything the students and I feel would be helpful. This has already proved beneficial for the students I mentor, as it’s helped them to improve their grades.

My role at The Littlehaven Nursery was to support the Manager and the staff in ensuring a smooth and productive day for all, especially the children. ;; I supported the children during circle time, outdoor play, reading and general support, ensuring they had an enjoyable and successful day wherever possible.

I am a volunteer with Bookmark: a reading charity that helps primary school aged children with reading and literacy. This aim of the programme is to engage students with an early start to reading and learning about their world through books. There are two 30-minute sessions each week done online.
I am also a mentor to an 11-year old to help build confidence and gain new experiences he might otherwise not have. We meet once a week for an hour to do an activity that was chosen by him. Safeguarding is a very important aspect of my duties in volunteering as well as in the various establishments.
