Experience: Within my role at my current school, I specialise in raising attainment and achievement in English at Key Stage 3 and, as Lead Practitioner for Literacy, I promote the development of whole school literacy, which was stated as outstanding in Ofsteds 2014 report.
As a member of the 2015-2017 Teaching Leaders cohort, I share the belief that childrens success at school can be driven, not by social background, but by the quality and kind of education students receive. Literacy has the means to impact on the lives of all students: the foundation of employability skills lies in these most basic, and yet often ignored, literacy strands.
Most recently, I has focused predominantly on reading skills and, more specifically, the teaching of reading skills within practical subjects. A nationwide trend suggests a decrease in reading ages in line with chronological ages. Specific intervention has been designed to target each students weakest reading skills. Theoretically, the attainment gap will decrease as reading ages increase.
