Information about George

I have had a deep passion for philosophy since I first encountered it myself somewhere around Year 10 or 11, since which I have spent the majority of my time studying or teaching philosophy (sometimes both!). I enjoy sharing philosophy with others, and one of my favourite aspects of the subject is that anyone can contribute interesting thoughts, regardless of their level of background knowledge - as shown by the sessions I have run in primary schools! At the same time, I enjoy being challenged and will always answer any difficult student questions - even if they require me to do some further research. Although exams have been made more gruelling since I went to school, I did 16 GCSEs and 5 A-Levels and so know how much pressure and stress students can be under. It is important to me not to make any assumptions about why students find things difficult, but instead to do anything I can to support students to achieve their full potential. Many students enjoy my lessons more than any others at college, and one even said they were the best lessons they had ever had! At the same time, we live in a world where exam results are important, and I consistently deliver results above national averages, and an average of 5-10% of my students go on to study a philosophy degree (usually at a Russell Group university) every year, with most of the others going on to study other subjects at degree level (prepared well by their philosophy A-Level). I constantly read research on both philosophy and teaching, and deliver entire lessons on general study skills and exam technique. In summary, I aim to provide a warm but intellectual learning environment that enables you to develop the independence and skills you need to make the most of your future.
