Information about Heather

I am an experienced, friendly and enthusiastic English Teacher, and I take pride in boosting my students` confidence as well as their ability, which can often go hand in hand. I love studying my subject and I always try to share this enthusiasm by creating lessons that are tailored to each student`s individual interests and needs.

My strengths as a teacher are based in helping students to understand how to analyse the language, form and structure of fiction and non fiction texts and helping to develop creative writing skills. I also thoroughly enjoy working with poetry, and can help my students understand the explicit and implicit meanings within these texts.

I can help students of all abilities, from students who are struggling with understanding the text, the question or how to write the answer, to students who have excellent comprehension but would like to be challenged and deepen their understanding.

My teaching style is adaptable, depending on the needs of each student as an individual, but I always focus on trying to build confidence and enthusiasm for my subject. I love reading and learning new facts, and often discuss books and context in my classes, focusing on a well rounded education. I find students often enjoy learning about the social and historical context of the text we are looking at, and it often really helps their understanding.

Availability: I am currently a full time tutor so my availability is quite flexible.
There will be periods, closer to exams, when I am mostly booked up so please get in contact as soon as possible to guarantee a space.
I am always happy to book students in advance for later courses.

I am also available for casual lessons, set courses with a specific amount of weeks, or long term tuition.

I have been working as a full time private tutor since 2019.
