Information about Jack
I am a friendly and approachable medical student at Newcastle University (finalyear) originally from the Bedfordshire area. Upon completion of my degree-level and then Foundation-level medical training I will hopefully look towards a career in neurology.
Having only relatively recently finished A-Levels and recalling how difficult they can be, I have developed my own learning skills during my first few years of university to cope with the demands of medical school.
I would love to help younger students, particularly studying maths or the sciences at AS/A2 level, to find and refine their own learning styles and indeed aid with exam preparation. I am also a firm believer that understanding, and not just `knowing`, is vital in any area and would focus on this as a grounding for studying any scientific interests at a higher level. In addition to this, I would actively encourgage students to pursue areas of interest to them to a level beyond that required at GCSE or A-Level as this will help prepare them for their future studies.
My intention would therefore be to provide a balance of the following:
-Going through past/practice papers with a focus on exam technique
-Revisiting `core` content regularly with room to go into more depth in topics of interest to the student
-Spend time thinking about learning techniques/styles and how to apply these in any context
Furthermore I would be more than happy to help prospective medical students with any aspect of their application including personal statements, entrance exams (including UKCAT/BMAT) or interview preparation.
Availability: I am based in central Newcastle and will be here for the next academic year. I will be available from 6pm onwards most weekday evenings and weekends as convenient.
Willing to travel: 5 miles
Experience: In addition to achieving 8 A* grades at GCSE level (including English, Maths, Chemistry, Biology and Physics) I gained A* grades at A2 level in Maths, Biology, Chemistry, Physics and General Studies. I have gone on to rank near the top of my year consistently at medical school, achieveing a Merit in each of the previous 4 years.
During my time at medical school I have also assisted in activites organised by the Medical Education Society, such as introductory and induction sessions for younger students.
