Information about Adam
Hello, my name is Adam! I love teaching and I love learning.
In 2011 I went to the University of Cambridge to study medicine, where I specialised for a year in neuroscience, in which I hold a degree. I then completed my clinical training at UCL and am now a qualified doctor.
The most important thing I learned at Cambridge was HOW to think when studying science. In short: FROM FIRST PRINCIPLES. No matter how complicated, challenging, vast or theoretical the subject matter, approaching it from a basic assumption that cannot be further deduced is the best first step towards understanding. Committing this information to memory is then incidental to that understanding. This best exemplifies my approach to teaching and indeed my own learning! (It is also the method I use when explaining many aspects of medicine to my patients and their families on a daily basis.)
I care about my students and, being no stranger to stress, like to include time management, revision and organisational skills teaching. I try to promote a sensible approach to learning to achieve success without the expense of burn out.
Availability: Monday, Tuesday and Wednesday daytime and evenings preferably for regular slots but I can be flexible to include other evenings and weekends.
Willing to travel: 8 miles
Experience: I have tutored and taught regularly for nearly 10 years both privately and for a number of organisations including Blue Tutors and Oxbridge Applications. I have taught both in a one-on-one setting (and was once hired and flown out to teach a client in the UAE) and to classrooms of students ranging from school age up to and including consultant physicians and surgeons. This tuition has been in a number of scientific subjects across several examination boards and includes hundreds of Oxbridge University and medicine mock interviews as well as lessons on essay writing and drafting personal statements.
