Information about Richard

I offer one-to-one tuition at A-Level in Maths, Physics and Chemistry.
I have been a Private Tutor for 9 years, and have had excellent results in helping students to achieve their very best.
Knowing that every student is an individual, I work to help them to build on their strengths, and to assess where they need that extra bit of attention. I often find that better explanations can unlock a student`s latent abilities, and I try to infuse them with the same sense of enthusiasm that I have for my subjects. In some cases, students need some coaching in exam techniques. In other cases, they may benefit from a boost to their confidence, making use of worked exercises. Students may have missed - through illness, for example - a crucial foundation topic which, when explained, can unlock their learning.
In a first tutorial, I explore a student`s own assessment of their abilities in regard to the subject, to see how best to help them.
I do not try to replicate the work of their teachers, but rather to focus on gaps in their understanding, and on general techniques that they can use widely.
I do ask my students to submit regular homework, provided that they can do this without compromising their school commitments.
I graduated from Oxford University, and have a PhD from the Open University.

Availability: I am available now.

I usually start my lessons on the hour, and typically will start tutorials in the afternoon or early evening, up to 6pm. I can also accommodate occasional tutorials earlier in the day to suit students who have gaps in their school/college timetables.

I do not usually travel to students` homes, because of the travelling time that this entails, but may consider doing so in exceptional cases.

Willing to travel: Home Only

Experience: I started tutoring in 2011.

My professional career was in engineering, and more recently in telecommunications software for mobile and computer networks. I have also taught, as a part-time lecturer for the Open University, during my tenure there as a Research Fellow in the Technology Faculty.

I have an Honours Degree from Oxford University, and a PhD from the Open University. I have also studied Engineering to MSc level at the University of Strathclyde in Glasgow.
