Hi, my name is Heather and I am a recent Classics graduate from the University of Oxford. My passion for languages, both ancient and modern, is what led me to pursue my degree: while Latin and Ancient Greek are what I have studied in the greatest depth, I have been taught French and Spanish to A Level and continue to work on them in my spare time; I am happy to teach these to GCSE level. As you might expect from an enthusiastic language student, I would say I have great communication skills and am very friendly.

Since Classics is a subject of many disciplines, I have also studied ancient literature, history, philosophy and art, and have specialised in branches of these for my finals. I took Classical Civilisation at A Level, which led me to develop a fascination with various ancient texts, statues, and vases. Augustan literature, Platonic philosophy and Classical Greek art and architecture are what particularly interest me.

I am also happy to help with Oxbridge applications, including personal statements, CAT test prep and interview practice.

Availability: I am available weekday evenings and Saturdays.

Experience: I have been tutoring beginner-intermediate Latin for over a year, including for 13+ scholarship exams, and have provided feedback on personal statements for Oxbridge applicants with great success.
I have also previously taught English as a foreign language in France, assisted in Latin teaching for an after-school club while I was in Sixth Form as well as supporting students in my school’s Modern Languages Clinic, and completed work experience as a teaching assistant in a primary school. I am currently teaching EFL in Spain. I try to create a relaxed but structured space when I am teaching and bring a sense of humour to the work.
