I am the current head of Biology at an Outstanding Inner London secondary school and sixth form. I have several years of experience teaching GCSE Physics, GCSE Chemistry, GCSE and A-level Biology and Level 3 Applied Science (BTEC). I have a BSc in Biology from Queen Mary University of London and an MSc in Neuroscience from Kings College London. I am passionate about teaching and providing pupils with the right tools to exceed their academic goals, no matter what their starting point is. I have been able to give my students the necessary guidance and support to bring their grades up by more than five levels. Over the last two years my year 11 classes have achieved a progress 8 score close to 1.0 in their final GCSE exams. This means that on average my students have achieved a whole grade higher than expected (expected grades are calculated for each student by the government based on KS2 grades). Through my experience I have learnt the kind of concepts students struggle with and have lots of strategies to make them simpler and more manageable. I am able to coach students in exam technique, from reading and interpreting questions to answering in a succinct and precise way to gain maximum marks.


My approach to teaching is always centred around the student. The first step for me is always to assess what my students need and then devise a plan to tackle their biggest issues head on. I use my knowledge of the curriculum and subject to make sure pupils have a clear understanding of key concepts. I then work with my students on memory and revision strategies in order to ensure that their learning enters their long term memory. I also provide pupils with plenty of opportunity for application, using exam questions to train pupils on exam technique.
