Information about Florence
I have recently graduated from the University of York with a first class degree in Biochemistry. In September, I will be embarking on a law conversion course in London, with a view to become a solicitor. My academic background equips me well to teach Maths, Physics and Chemistry up to and including GCSE level, and Biology at all levels. Additionally, I am polite and friendly and keen to assist with the learning of all age groups.
I feel that it is important to make the sessions interesting and enjoyable, and I strive to do this by integrating interactive activities into the session. This aims to make the information more memorable and make the sessions less repetitive.
In my past experience teaching children/explaining concepts to fellow students I have felt that it is important to assist with their learning and not tell them the answer. Therefore, I make sure to guide them to, but not give them the answer and ensure that they repeat back to me how they got there afterwards.
Since I have so recently graduated, I am also keen to pass on my own revision strategies and resources to other students. However I am also adaptable, and understand that techniques that work for me may not work for all students and I therefore have identified other strategies that can be employed. It feel that it is essential that outside of the time I am able to teach, you/your child is equipped with suitable revision strategies to employ on their own.
Availability: I am currently available weekday afternoons and evenings and weekends. I will be attending university only 2 days a week so can be very flexible when scheduling the sessions.
Willing to travel: 12 miles
Experience: I have ample experience tutoring Maths and Science to students at levels ranging from year 6 to A-level. I therefore have developed tutoring and organisation methods that I feel are enjoyable and effective for exam success.
Throughout university, I often explained concepts to fellow students, as I have found that this helps me to cement my knowledge. I spent several months voluntarily tutoring a family friend`s daughter in Maths, during this time she moved up a Maths set at school. I have also taught young children several styles of dance at the local dance school I attended. I therefore have plenty of experience teaching younger children.
