Information about Karen

I am an experienced, fully qualified Secondary Science teacher with a BSc Hons in Biochemistry. I have enjoyed tutoring KS3 and KS4 students in Combined Science as well as individual Sciences for over 27 years. Alongside tutoring I have worked for local government as an educational adviser. I pride myself on finding innovative ways for students to learn, gain confidence and retain information for examinations. I try to bring Science to life using on-line resources as well as more conventional texts. Seeing the ";Light bulb moments"; for students is what drives me. All students can reach their true potential with the right guidance.

Availability: Enquiries welcome for intensive tuition during the February half term or Easter break. I tailor tuition to help each student face the challenges ahead and use their time in the most productive manner. I offer tuition to students who feel that they would like to consolidate their learning and grow in confidence, resilience and Scientific understanding. I can also suggest effective revision and examination techniques so that students feel ready to take on all future challenges.

I usually suggest starting with a one hour session with each new student. This enables us to set out our learning aims and objectives and draw a plan of action. I am happy to work with students for 1 hour or 1.5 hours as 2 hours can be a bit much for students. If this sounds like the right kind of intervention for your child`s needs then do get in contact.

Willing to travel: 8 miles

Experience: I graduated from Birmingham University in 1995 with a 2.1 in Biochemistry and then completed a PGCE in Secondary Science. I have worked as a Science teacher and tutor for many years and also as an educational adviser to local and national government. I tutor students in KS3/KS4 individual Sciences as well as double award GCSE, making sure that students achieve the required but often higher levels/grades than predicted. After twenty seven years I have a proven track record and my methods and insight give students the full benefit of my experience.

Karen has been working with my 14 year old for only a few sessions but I’ve been really impressed by her approach, knowledge and experience. From the start Karen engaged with my son, found out what he likes and what he’s good at and then targeted her approach to teaching Physics. Karen was full of ideas, enthusiastic and very likeable.
