Information about Clive
I work part time in secondary schools as a supply / cover teacher with Maths as my specialist subject. I have a Physics degree, and worked for 18 yrs as a Computer Software engineer for a Marconi company. I later turned to working as a part-time adult education tutor. I have an easy-going personality and can get on well with a wide variety of people, showing great patience as I do so. Experience: Since December 2014 I have worked part-time in secondary schools as a supply / cover teacher with Maths as my specialist subject. Prior to that, I had 9 yrs experience working as a part-time adult education tutor, teaching maths and English. This teaching was "student-centred" rather than "teacher-centred" , i.e. the teaching was tailored one-to-one based on the individual student`s needs and learning styles.
When starting with a new tutee I discuss with the student/parent which topics need addressing. This may well unearth underlying issues that need to be reinforced first.
I am used to being very patient with students, many of whom do not/did not for whatever reason, "get on" with the maths teaching they received in school. I always try to ensure that students have fully grasped the material, e.g. by perhaps asking them to write a sentence summarising a key point in their own words, or by checking that they can clearly do worked examples by themselves.
