Information about Alastair

I have three years of experience as a tutor, teaching English Literature and Language, History and Geography from Key Stage 3 through to A-Level/IB. I am also able to provide assistance and guidance during the Oxbridge Admissions process.

This year I graduated from the University of Oxford, where my MA research specialised in Shakespeare, early modern playhouse practice and the relationship between the period`s biological traumas and its staged drama. As an undergraduate at University College London, I achieved one of the highest degree results in my cohort, and I was awarded the Rhiannon Jones Memorial Prize in recognition of my contribution to the life and work of the department. I have also won several awards for my writing, including the Betty Haigh Shakespeare Prize.

Currently I work as a freelance playwright and journalist. My plays have toured around the country. My journalism can be seen in The Economist, TANK Magazine and the Oxford Review of Books, an arts and cultures review I also edit.

Availability: Weekdays and weeknights.

Willing to travel: 15 miles

Experience: My teaching is tailored to the interests and aims of my students, providing them with the confidence and practical techniques to achieve the highest grades, improve their essay-writing, and assist in exploring and deconstructing complicated ideas and theories.

I achieved full marks in nearly all of my A-Level exams. Such results are possible when students are aware of the rubric of their GCSEs, A-Levels or IB exams, which are often exacting and precise. This means my lessons focus on identifying the requirements of each subject and developing strategies with my students to meet these demands.

For high-achieving students, my lessons can also provide a chance to find opportunities for new interests and innovation within the confines of the exam syllabus.
