My name is Sam and I am a friendly, approachable and patient teacher who has been graded ‘Outstanding’ by all three head-teachers I have worked for.
For the last two years I have been a Year 6 teacher. I have taught in all primary year groups from Years 1 to 6 and have also worked with children with a range of special needs.
Children in the classes I have taught have all made exceptional progress, and the Year 6 children all achieved excellent SATs results.
Children, parents and professionals who have watched me teach have often commented on how I manage to explain difficult concepts in a simple way and use a step-by-step approach so that nervous children gain confidence and realise what they are capable of achieving, whilst motivating them by making learning fun and interesting.
Before becoming a teacher, I achieved a 2:1 honours degree in English Literature and History at the University of East Anglia and then worked as a journalist for a popular regional newspaper. I achieved an A grade in my maths GCSE.

My tutoring approach:
I am very positive and boost children’s confidence, helping them to enjoy the subject rather than finding it intimidating.
I assess children’s understanding thoroughly while I teach so I know exactly where the gaps in their knowledge or understanding are, and I help them to fill those gaps to build a solid platform for extending them further.
I build strong relationships with my students so they feel able to try new things without worrying about making mistakes.
I can teach in a variety of ways and find out which style best suits each child to help them achieve excellent results.
I make sure the sessions are personalised to the child`s own hobbies, interests and personality.

Experience: I am a fully qualified teacher who has taught several Year 6 classes for SATs tests, and have also been Head of English. I have done 1:1 teaching of English and maths for children of all ages.
