Information about Fatiya
Im currently in my third year of medical school at King`s College London, having first qualified as a pharmacist before following my interest in medicine. Alongside my studies, I continue to work part-time in pharmacy, which allows me to maintain up-to-date clinical knowledge and bring practical, real-world context into my tutoring sessions.
Teaching has always been something I enjoy. At university, I regularly support fellow students by simplifying complex material into clear, logical steps. I place strong emphasis on active learning techniques, particularly the use of quizzes, active recall practice, and exam-style questions to consolidate understanding and improve long-term retention.
Being a student myself, I understand how valuable it is to have a teacher who not only explains content clearly but also builds confidence and encourages independent thinking. I aim to create structured, supportive sessions that are tailored to each learners goals and learning style.
I recognise that every student is different, so I continuously adapt my approach by reviewing progress, refining strategies, and focusing on what works best for the individual. My overall aim is to help students gain clarity in their subjects, develop confidence in their abilities, and achieve excellent exam outcomes.
Willing to travel: 5 miles
Experience: I have delivered teaching sessions to fellow medical students via Microsoft Teams as part of my training. These sessions involve exploring topics in depth and designing interactive PowerPoint presentations that integrate exam-style questions throughout. I tailor the pace to the group, checking understanding frequently and adapting explanations where needed to ensure concepts are clear and retained.
During my second year of medical school, I completed a compulsory research module centred on the theme Doctor as Teacher. As part of this project, I co-delivered asthma education sessions to Key Stage 2 pupils in primary schools. We developed an engaging, age-appropriate presentation covering what asthma is, how it affects the airways, common symptoms, correct inhaler technique, recognising an asthma attack, and appropriate emergency response. The sessions included quizzes and interactive activities to maintain attention and reinforce learning.
This experience was both rewarding and formative, strengthening my ability to communicate complex medical information in an accessible way. The sessions were very well received, and we received highly positive feedback from the observing teachers.
