Information about Maria
I am a recent graduate from Imperial College London where I studied Biotechnology. Currently I am a MPhil student in Genomic Medicine at Cambridge University. I am a friendly and passionate tutor with over 500 hours of tutoring experience.
As a student myself, I have an insight on the easiest ways of learning which I can then extrapolate to teaching. My major priority as a tutor is that students understand what they are learning through enjoyable lessons instead of memorising the material given. I believe that visual aids as well as finding the best studying method for each student help a lot. Every student has its own way of learning, some are visual learners (use of diagrams and mind maps), while others understand concepts better through listening. One of the perks I find particularly interesting about tutoring is that that teaching can be personalized. I also believe it is important to work on the pupils strengths as well as on the limitations to build upon their confidence and achieve their goals. I work on developing students curiosity for the learning material, as I think that is the best way of learning.
Availability: Available any time during the week but only online due to the Covid-19 pandemic.
Willing to travel: 3 miles
Experience: I have a wide range of experience tutoring across different age groups up to A-level. I have also done successful preparations for 7+, 11+ and 13+ school entrance examinations. I started teaching 4 years ago and I truly enjoy this part time job! Getting the most of every student is my main goal, as well as engaging them with all subjects.
