Information about Maia

Hi, I`m Maia :)

I am a graduate from UCL, where I achieved a First Class Honours in BA Spanish and Latin. I have taken A levels in Maths, English, Spanish and Latin, achieving 4 A*s for A level, and 11 9s for GCSE. I have over 4 years tutoring experience on MyTutor.

I recognise that everyone learns in different ways, so a lesson with me would involve identifying strengths and weaknesses within topic areas, and creating an individualised lesson per student. Depending on the subject area, I would be able to help with exam preparation, different revision techniques, essay practice, general assistance with subject areas which accompanies school curriculums, or simply just providing some extra confidence and help when tackling tricker questions. I have a passion for learning and enjoy giving others the confidence and support to perform at their best.

I offer lessons for Spanish, English Literature and Latin A-Level/GCSE/KS3/13+, as well as Maths, English Language, Biology and Chemistry GCSE/KS3/13+. I have the flexibility to conduct lessons multiple times a week or on a weekly/fortnightly basis depending on your needs to suit both long-term support and short-term exam or coursework preparation.

Outside of academics, I`m an avid reader and I also love to play sports, particularly tennis!

I would be happy to answer any questions you might have regarding the tutoring process :)

Experience: I have over 4 years of experience tutoring KS3, GCSE and A-Level students. I use my experience to develop individualised lesson plans, so that students get the most out of their sessions with me.

My main focus in structuring lessons is adapting them to the needs of each individual pupil. I take time to speak to my pupil (and their parent) to understand their strengths, weaknesses, current grade level and aspirational targets. I use this knowledge to plan a schedule of lessons, breaking down difficult material into more manageable chunks.

Prior to each lesson, I take time to prepare activities that address specific topic areas. Activities that may be covered in class include topic teaching, thematic essay mind mapping, sample essay writing, exam-style practice questions and past papers. For languages, I will also focus on grammar, vocabulary, reading, writing, listening and speaking practice.

My goal is to improve exam results by first improving the knowledge of my student, and then applying that to exam-facing situations. It is important to be familiar with essay technique and problem-solving with the correct methods. I make sure to check-in regularly with my student (and their parent) to assess progress, introduce new topics and find out what teaching styles best suit their development.
