Information about Lauren

¡Hola a todos!

Me llamo Lauren. I am currently completing a PhD in Spanish Language and Culture and would be delighted with the opportunity to share my passion and knowledge about Spanish with you or your child.

Three facts about me:
- I play the piano
- I have two cats who I speak to in English, Spanish and Italian
- I love going to see musicals

I am currently providing tuition to GCSE Spanish students, who have reported feeling an increased sense of confidence in participating in Spanish classes at school and feeling more prepared to speak in oral activities. I am proud that two of my GCSE students have progressed by 3-4 grade boundaries since attending my classes.

Please feel free to get in touch to chat more about how my Spanish tuition can help you or your child reach your language-learning goals!

Please see a brief outline of my experience below.

Experience: I am a Higher Education practitioner and researcher at both Swansea University and SOAS University of London. I have a wealth of experience in delivering Spanish tuition to students of all ages, from as young as Year 7 to postgraduate university students. I am flexible in my teaching and enjoy adapting my methods according to the age, needs and learning style(s) of the student.

In my role at the University of London, I regularly design, deliver and evaluate language-related projects to support university students in their language degrees. I enjoy researching innovative approaches to language pedagogy and implementing these into my lessons with students.

I also believe in the power of students undertaking an active role in their learning. I step away from textbook-based, passive language exercises to provide students with the opportunity to learn Spanish in context and in communicative situations to encourage students to develop confidence in using the language and have fun while doing so.

Although most of my Spanish teaching experience has been based within the remit of Spanish for GCSE or A Level, I am also experienced in delivering Spanish lessons for casual speakers. Between 2018-2020, I convened the Spanish evening course at a local college, which involved developing the curriculum, preparing and delivering the class materials, assessing students` progress and awarding students with the qualification on completion of the course.

I am knowledgeable within the fields of language pedagogy through the completion of undergraduate modules in Child Development, Education and Teaching English as a Foreign Language at Aberystwyth University. I also regularly attend conferences and seminars related to language pedagogy,
